Special Features

There are many things about Villa Maria Retirement Community that make it a unique living experience. Not only is it a beautiful place to dwell, but it is also has accommodations, services and activities built-in to the spacious old-world facility that make it an enriching lifestyle choice.

Old World Charm

An atmosphere of old-world charm permeates the Villa Maria. Nestled by trees, our community reflects historical architecture with brick exterior, tile roofs and the appeal of days gone by. The Villa Maria is located in a historical landmark, on six beautifully landscaped acres on the Northwest side of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Established back in 1904 by the Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd, sold in 1985 and converted into senior apartments, our six main buildings are nicely spaced as well as conveniently connected by enclosed passageways. In the spring and summer months our enclosed courtyards where residents gather to laugh and reflect, are ablaze with flowering trees and blooming perennials.

Dining

Our three dining rooms are truly inspirational and a pleasant experience in old-world charm. The main dining hall was originally a chapel when built in 1904. Residents enjoy the beauty of the original stained glass windows surrounding the room. Family members are always welcome to dine with their loved ones.

Breakfast and the main meal are included in the rental fee with lunch available as an option. The main meal is served restaurant style and we offer a rotating menu with several different options. Residents may select what they'd like. Residents may dine in one of the three dining rooms and there is no assigned seating so they can sit with whomever they choose.
